Tokachidake Volcano Warning Raised to Level 3
Lots of excitement for Geology buffs today.
At around 9:30 AM today, the the official volcano alert level for Mt. Tokachidake was raised to level 3 (out of 5), and the "No Entry" restricted area was quadrupled, as a result of increased seismic activity in the vicinity of Ansei Crater. Apparently, lots is happening beneath the surface, and the authorities are continuously monitoring the mountain to keep people safe.
The biggest effect so far is the closing of Hwy 966 between Shirogane and Tokachidake Onsen. That is now inside the restricted area.
See you in Furano.
